My Reviews Explained
Just a little explanation about my reviews.
First a little legalese, I receive products for review and have a material connection with the manufacturers, marketers and/or publishers who I receive the products from in that I receive the products and get to keep them as samples for reviewing them. I do not get paid from any of the companies or whomever I receive the products from, I am reviewing them using my own opinions without any influence from anyone in my ratings and reviews.
I am a freelance writer who has been reviewing video games since 2005 and started to review products I receive directly from companies in late 2006, I now get products from many companies including Microsoft, Adobe, Braun, Hoover, Keurig, and Black & Decker.
I review computer hardware and software, video games and movies, consumer electronics, tools, books and just about anything else I can get my hands on. I only ask for things I am interested in receiving and so many of my reviews are rated higher than other sites may have for their reviews and ratings in general.
To explain why my ratings may be toward the higher end I only ask for things I am interested in reviewing and would actually pay for, I don't ask for things that I am not interested in. I don't want to waste my time with things that are cheap and I wouldn't want to waste my money on or things I am not going to like such as movies others have rated as very bad.
So I only ask for things from manufacturers and publishers that I want but a few times companies ask me to review things and I almost always do review what companies ask me to.When I receive something I start out by taking pictures and then start to use the product right away for most things. I then use the product for a full month to be thorough so I can find out if after some prolonged use there are any problems.
For things like consumer electronics, computer hardware and tools I usually take the product shots and then start using it right away so I get a good month of actual testing out of them before writing up my review. For computer hardware and software I actually use the products in one of my working computers so no virtual testing is going on here.
I have two computers in my office I use for testing and the two systems are what many people out there would have for a computer with common components that you may use. I built both systems using many components I have recieved or purchased and regualrly test products just like you would use them at home.
Software is one area that I perform my reviews simply by installing and using the product without any kind of virtual environment so I am using things just like you would at home. Tools and consumer electronics are getting real world workouts around my house and in my normal day to day routines to get as close to the regular use an average consumer would give them.
I am trying hard to review things honestly and with an eye toward giving my advice whether you should look into purchasing the items I am reviewing so I do take awhile to review the products I receive. I will try my best to be honest and objective and give my opinions from my experience with the product as well as what others say about them as I always check out the products on the internet as well.
