Jim Gaffigan does not shock or use those bad political points to get his own point across but uses common sense and his own take on the world for some great humor. Making people laugh is hard and it’s hard not to laugh at a lot of Jim’s jokes, just take a look at what he has to say about the bible or radio and you can understand what I mean.
He points out that we always see people pictured watching a radio, why? Or how about the bible and wondering if Jesus tried to talk god out of his crucifixion. Jim Gaffigan is not a shock comedian but more down to earth and talks a lot about everyday things like laziness and his love of bacon.
Jim also interjects himself with a soft voice like an audience heckler from time to time to poke fun at himself and his own jokes. The show is taped in Austin Texas after a sold out tour in 2008 showing his simple humor and a new look at ourselves.
Laziness is a center attraction to some of his comedy like escalators being a lazy man’s dream come true and the divine overindulgence of bacon. It is fun to see him go from the common ketchup packet in fast food joints to other condiments and vinegar.
One of the great things about much of Jim Gaffigan’s humor is the more down to earth quality and lack of swearing, rash political statements or shock humor. Jim Gaffigan looks at the more common and what some term safe topics but in a really funny way that had me laughing through most of his routine.
Jim Gaffigan has been a standup comedian and actor since the late 1990’s with numerous appearances in comedy and drama shows as well as several comedian routines on late night shows. He has been in many movies as well with short appearances or smaller parts but has been moving up into full spots in sitcoms such as Andy Franklin of My Boys.
Most of his stand up routine is funny and several of the jokes are great that had me laughing out loud for minutes but his bonus feature called Pale Force of cartoons voiced with Conan O-Brian fell flat on me. The DVD bonus features include a four episode routine called Our Massive Planet with Jim Gaffigan and Jordan Rubin voicing over some nature footage that was okay.
The DVD also includes a never aired British interview and XM/Sirius interview and some really quick one joke shots used as commercials for his comedy tour. The bonus content was okay but the standup routine was much better and well worth the cost of the DVD.
Jim Gaffigan is a pretty good comedian and his standup routine King Baby is a great look at everyday life and some common institutions of our society.
