The Nix TS08D/C digital picture frame does so much that other frames cannot with slideshow and image viewing, MP3 player that can play during your slideshow and even video viewing. The Nix TS08D/C digital photo frame I received has the C firmware installed but a simple email and file upload to the frame will install the D firmware upgrade when you email the company that you want the firmware.
Nix Digital has a good variety of digital photo frames and the TS08D/C is rechargeable and features not only the internal battery for portability but the digital frame also plays video. You can use the 1 gigabyte internal flash memory loaded directly from your computer or use pictures, music and video from your USB drive, SD/MMC/MS or CF memory card.
The Nix TS08 Digital Photo Frame comes with the frame an a removable stand, an AC power adapter, USB cable, remote control and battery for the remote along with a manual. The remote works really well with self explanatory buttons and you have the side buttons on the frame itself for menu and playing as well.
The Nix Digital Photo Frame has a settings page, a page that shows the various devices connected like a memory card or USB device and a blank page with PC Connected when you're hooked up to your PC. Other pages once you get to the menus of images, music and video has the types of items listed in a menu list with individual information for the highlighted item to the side.

During music it has an equalizer bar graph and the name and other information for each song and video has a small window that shows the video clip along with video information below that. For images it will have a small image of the highlighted item and information below that and for files the frame does not recognize it will not show anything at all.
The Nix Photo Frame will not list or do anything with files or items it does not recognize so it only lists folders and images in JPG while video is in MOV, MPEG-4 or AVI. The music files are readable in MP3 and WMA so any other formats you have for any content you want to display on your Digital Photo Frame you will have to convert.
The photo frame may also have problems with some video files and different formats when trying to play from various cameras or camcorders as all the video formats are not exactly alike. When talking about file formats and video you can have an AVI or MPEG-4 that is still not readable by the frame, or many programs for that matter, so having a converter like DivX is handy to ensure it is a format the frame can use.
The digital photo frame from NIX does a great job with formats straight out of cameras like a Canon PowerShot and a Nikon CoolPix digital camera using the video setting. I had no problems watching and hearing the video but the sound from the two small speakers in the back is anything but impressive.

They kind of reminded me of listening to sound coming from an earbud that was sitting on my desk and cranked up to full volume just so you could hear it. So I did that, I set a good earbud set on my desk and compared it to the sound the NIX digital frame put out.
It sounded pretty close to that rather flat and almost tin can sound you get from an earbud set on the desk with the volume from my frame or the PC I connected the earbuds to cranked all the way up. The good news to this is you can connect an external set of speakers to the digital frame using the earphone connection on the frame and get really good sound.
The NIX 8 Inch frame has a good MP3 player for audio, it just lacks a decent set of speakers so you can have the frame playing music on a good set of powered or unpowered speakers while watching your video or slideshow. Video is something that is more of a quick view before you edit it on a PC if you really want some decent video from a digital camera.

If you want something that looks a whole lot better you have a good chance at downloading video and getting some extremely good looking and sharp video on the Nix frame or using edited video form a camcorder. I did some work trying to get video from both a DVD and some downloaded video from the internet and found the Nix did extremely well with HD video when you converted it.
Some video files need to be run through a converter such as the DivX converter that is free for download from DivX but you can get extremely good quality video and audio on the small 8 inch screen. Audio is not as good but video is extremely sharp and clear, just how clear is hard to show you but I will try and explain as well.

Oaused Video of NASA Launch
I downloaded a video from Nasa.com, in HD to see how well the frame handled one of the easiest to get videos and did have to run it through the DivX converter. I use NASA shots of space shuttle missions in a lot of my video editing and reviews because the downloads are easy and fast as well as extremely good quality.
The video once run through the converter will bring the resolution down but convert the MPEG4 video into a DIVX file that the Nix frame reads easily and shows in all its glory. I love watching space shuttle takeoffs, it's really thrilling when things go right and seeing one on the Nix Digital Photo Frame is almost as good as seeing it on my computer screen.
The photo frame shows detail and clarity that I am surprised to get for the small frame and just goes to show how well it is built. The Nix Digital Photo Frame really does a great job with good quality video but also does well with lower quality like those from inexpensive digital cameras that also record video.
The image quality for video is fantastic and adds a lot of functionality to the digital frame so you can not only watch video but listen to music as well as view slideshows of your pictures. The website for Nix talks of being able to pass the frame around the table or while relatives and friends are visiting to view slideshows and videos.
This is one fantastic use of the Nix Digital Photo Frame that brings the features of cordless power and great clarity for both video and images so you can do just that. The frame also makes a fantastic business digital photo frame so you can have it set in place at your business or when you're doing conventions or demonstrations out of the office.

Still Shot of Video on Pause
You can not only show video like commercials but images of products and even created graphs, charts of presentations in a slideshow form but use it on the go without power connection worries. The music playing or even voice recorded while a slideshow also plays makes the frame great for presentation type slideshows for a great and versatile frame.
The cordless aspect of having a built in Lithium Ion battery makes a great portable digital photo frame so you can use the frame on the go at craft shows, conventions and other business meetings. The Lithium Ion battery lasts for several hours and depending on your use with music, video or images can give you up to 2 hours of continuous use without being connected to a power source.
I have used the frame and had it playing a slide show with it lasting 2 to 2 and a half hours several times and playing video it has lasted a little over an hour showing video repeatedly. The Nix Digital Photo Frame does a great job in slideshows, video and as an MP3 player to accompany your slideshows and video.
I highly recommend the Nix TS08D/C Digital Photo Frame if you're looking for the most versatile and well built photo frame for digital pictures, video and music.
