The Nyko Blu-Wave is a small and affordable remote that connects to your PlayStation 3 using the included IR dongle for easy control of your movies and music. The most annoying feature I have found for the XBox and PS3 are the fact that it does not include a remote for regular use of movie and control of the interface.
Both systems include a movie feature with the PlayStation 3 being the top of the line Blu-Ray player but the consoles do not have a way to easily control the interface while playing movies. To handle the menus and interface you’re forced to either use the controller or purchase a remote to handle your movie watching.
Nyko has brought forth an easy solution for the PlayStation 3 in the Blu-Wave Infrared Remote with its additional IR dongle. The PlayStation 3 does not come with an infrared sensor like the XBox 360 so you have to use the dongle to add the IR remote sensor.
The Nyko Blu-Wave uses a small dongle for the IR sensor to receive the signals from the remote that has all the regular PlayStation controller buttons on it. The center of the remote has a rocker button pad for use as a directional controller like using the controller joystick.
The other buttons like the square, triangle and X are on the four corners of the directional pad with the other left and right trigger buttons above that on top of the controller. The bottom buttons below the directional pad are a regular set of DVD control buttons to play and rewind movies but the one button and feature that is obviously absent is an on/off button.
This is the only feature missing from this great remote but to just turn on the PS3 before you sit down and start watching the movie is not a big deal. The remote works very well and I have had no problems using it with my PlayStation 3 controlling movies and music as well as general use on the main interface. The remote is also very nice for the PlayStation Network and other surfing on the internet for quick and easy control.
The Blu-Wave is a nice looking remote and easily identifiable as that one for the PS3 with its distinctive shape buttons surrounding the central direction pad. The remote is a nice stylish looking device and makes navigation on your PlayStation 3 effortless when surfing the menus and media playing.
